Despite the bad weather, today on 12 September 2024 we welcomed a rare visit of the representatives of CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency. Representatives of the CEF Transport Working Group, Advisory Group for the Connecting Europe Facility for Transport, Ms. Paloma Aba Garrote, Director of CINEA, representatives of the countries Austria, Romania, Croatia, Spain, Slovenia, Flanders, who were supporting our project Upgrade of Gabčíkovo locks from the beginning and are interested in its implementation, came on 12 September 2024 together with representatives from the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, which is the beneficiary of the grant, for a visit and a tour through the Lock chambers.
CINEA places extra importance on a close relationship with its beneficiaries. One of the ways of such interest is through the Advisory Group, which is a platform to discuss ways to improve the effective implementation of the CEF Transport. The aim is to maximize the expertise of both the Agency and the members of the Group through the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices. The added value of such a visit, was to find viable and cost-effective solutions to common problems and, where necessary, to develop common positions by providing support, advice, feedback and recommendations on simplifying procedures. Here in Gabčíkovo, the guests were welcomed in the newly renovated Information Centre by Mr. Peter Čadek, who is entrusted with the management of the development and investment department, and a presentation of the projects implementation. Our colleague Ms. Monika Takáčová accompanied the guests on a tour through the Lock chambers.
The tour also included the ceremony of unveiling a commemorative board, which was placed on the foundation stone of the start of the project Upgrade of Gabčíkovo locks, in honour of Ms. Inés Alaya Sender, European Coordinator of the Rhine-Danube Corridor, for her long-lasting efforts, exceptional contribution to the development of transport infrastructure connecting European countries. Ms Sender left us forever on July 25, 2024. Her work contributed significantly to connecting regions, strengthening economic cooperation and sustainable development. Through her vision and commitment, she left a lasting legacy that will serve for generations to come and continue to promote growth and prosperity across Europe.
Project “Upgrade of Gabčíkovo locks” is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union.
