The traditional interdisciplinary and cross-border forum on current and future activities related to the development of waterways on the river Danube, organised by the Austrian waterway manager via donau – Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesellschaft mbH, brought important topics again this year. Such as the modernisation of the mooring and waiting areas, the upgrading of the locks of the Gabčíkovo waterworks, the important start of construction on the German river Danube and the adaptation of the waterway to climate change.
Employees of VODOHOSPODÁRSKA VÝSTAVBA, STATE ENTERPRISE, prepared an interesting presentation for the forum about the current modernization works within the project Upgrade of Gabčíkovo locks. The presentation is always watched with a great interest, as it is a key action to ensure smooth and reliable navigation on a waterway of very high European importance.
The traditional event of the Austrian waterway manager was also held online this year with about forty participants considering the current pandemic situation. The conference is regularly attended by representatives of the executive bodies involved in the management and operation of the waterway and its facilities. Representatives of the neighbouring Danube countries are also regularly invited to the event to provide an update on the development and construction of the waterway on their section of the river Danube.
